Health Tips for Physically Demanding Jobs
27 Mar, 2023
Jobs such as cleaning operatives, warehouse operatives, parcel sorters, drivers, and construction operatives can be physically demanding, stressful, and often involve long working hours. While it is important to meet job demands and deliver excellent service, it is equally crucial to take care of your mental and physical health. Here are some tips to help you look after your wellbeing and mental health in jobs that require physical labour: Prioritise sleep: One of the essential ways to take care of your mental health is to prioritise sleep. Lack of sleep can impact your mood, cognitive function, and overall wellbeing. It is crucial to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night, and if you work night shifts, aim to establish a routine and make your bedroom conducive to sleep. Avoid caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime, and try to limit screen time before bed. Practice stress-reducing techniques: Work can be stressful, but you can mitigate the effects by practising stress-reducing techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and yoga. These techniques can help you to relax and manage stress effectively. Consider taking regular breaks throughout the day to practice these techniques. Eat a balanced diet: Nutrition is essential for physical and mental health. Aim to eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Avoid sugary and processed foods, which can lead to crashes in energy levels and mood swings. Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water is vital for physical and mental wellbeing. Ensure that you drink enough water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Carry a reusable water bottle with you to work to remind yourself to drink enough water. Take regular breaks: Taking regular breaks throughout the day can help you to recharge and manage fatigue. Consider taking a short walk, stretching, or doing some light exercises during your break time. This can help to increase blood flow, reduce tension, and improve your mood. Stay connected with friends and family: Work can sometimes feel isolating, especially if you work long hours. Make sure you stay connected with friends and family to maintain a support system. Consider scheduling regular catch-ups with loved ones, even if it is just a phone call or a text message. Seek support: If you are struggling with your mental health, it is important to seek support. Consider talking to a mental health professional, reaching out to a support group, or confiding in a trusted friend or family member. In conclusion, taking care of your mental and physical wellbeing in physically demanding jobs is crucial. Prioritising sleep, practising stress-reducing techniques, eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, taking regular breaks, staying connected with friends and family, and seeking support when needed are essential ways to promote positive mental and physical health. By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can ensure that you stay healthy and happy in your job.

Two of our staff members celebrated their birthday so we were busy buying chocolates and doughnuts It was time for clients catch ups and planning for summer peak but also many external audits (we passed them all successfully ) Very productive month indeed! April and May was a time of staff training with Kate O’Neill Coaching - our team learnt useful skills how to master the recruitment game and make their work more pleasant and effective- thank you so much Kate. We believe in continues improvement and there is not such a thing as too much learning. Kate is out secret weapon (not anymore I guess ) June and July were focused on more improvements- we worked on current processes, softwares and data management while recruiting for new clients. We are all about efficiency and we love working smart and not hard. Our technology is truly amazing and we are honoured to be supported by Bruno and his team at HAND . What makes us different then the rest? Definitely the technology we are supported by. We simply want to automate as much as we can so we have more time building relationships and helping people. August was busy for us with holiday cover bookings so we were on full steam! To stay balanced and in good health , we have few tricks up out sleeves- we send staff, candidates and clients to our lovely reflexology sessions with Sandra . Have you tried feet reflexology yet? It stimulates your body for self-healing so we are in! We highly recommend Sandra at the Foot Therapist! In September our Bristol office was born! That means even more training and development for us! We also invested in mindset coaching with amazing Mel and this was eye opening experience! Do you believe in law of attraction and power of creation? We certainly do as the magic guides us through everyday and amazing things happen. We're about to start the last month of the year. And what a year it has been! Did you get on top of your resolutions? When you think about your 2022, how do you feel? As we know our professional life is directly connected to our mind and emotions, and our career goals are connected to what makes our soul happy, we would like to suggest an exercise to be done over the next few weeks, before the end of the year. This will help balance your professional and personal minds, which will put you in the right place to set your next life goals. Follow the steps: 1. Meditate Before you start, take a few minutes to connect with yourself. This can be done via meditation, breathing exercises, journaling or other. Choose what works best for you. The idea is to make you be present and concentrate on your intentions. 2. Take some time to review your year How was 2022 for you? On a piece of paper, write the challenges, accomplishments, highlights, feelings and everything that comes to your head when you think about the past 12 months. Remember every experience - good or bad - can become a learning. And that learnings make us grow. 3. Write down where and how you want to be in one year After everything you've been through in 2022, where do you want to be in exactly one year? Write what you want your year to look like - where will you be? What will you be doing? Who will be there with you? Remember to trust your potential here. 4. How are you getting there? No challenge is too big that you can't at least write down an action plan to overcome it. So write a plan that will help you arrive where you said you'll be. Can someone help you? Do you need to develop a new skill? Do you need to change anything in your life? This will help your goals become plans. And we'll see they're perfectly doable. 5. List the habits you want to quit - and those you want to start As an extension of the previous exercise, list the habits that are distancing you from your goals. It can be procrastinating, over-complaining, judging yourself and others, excessive alcohol, etc... Then write what you want to start doing - from reading more to waking up earlier. 6. Be grateful As we said before, you can learn from every experience you have, and these learnings will make you grow. Be grateful for who you are, how far you've come, and all those 'regular' things we often forget to look at - our health, family, friends, house... When you start enjoying the life you have, it becomes easier to build the life you want. 7. Welcome the new year Now breath deep and open yourself to new things. Be open to what 2023 is bringing - new experiences, people, feelings, and learnings. And every time you feel lost throughout the year, revisit this exercise. You got this. Happy December!

If you follow us on social media, you know we're always talking about positivity. This is because we truly believe our thoughts are responsible for the directions we take in our life, and, as we're able to control them, we're able to write our future too. But it's not only what we believe. According to Forbes, "Those people with a growth mindset understand that knowledge can be acquired and intelligence can be developed. With a growth mindset, people focus on improvement instead of worrying about how smart they are. They work hard to learn more and get smarter. A “growth mindset,” thrives on challenge and sees failure not as evidence of unintelligence but as a heartening springboard for growth and for stretching our existing abilities." Have you ever woken up late, done everything in a rush then felt everything was going wrong for you during that day? Or, have you ever listened to your favourite song first thing in the morning, and realised it shifted your mood throughout the day? Yes. If you start your day in a positive mood, it creates an ongoing cycle of positivity. But, if you start your day in a negative mood, you can definitely get into a negative cycle. Those bad days, research shows, results in 10 percent less productivity on your daily job. It doesn't matter what career you're in or how big your dreams are - looking after your mindset is a gift you give to your present self more than your future one. Once your present is set up, you'll notice the long term magic. There are some easy exercises to do every day. Here are some of those: - Challenge yourself and your limiting beliefs: be committed to being your best version. And, in case you're wondering, yes, you CAN do it. - Understand your anxiety: what's really bothering you about your routine? By understanding what you like and dislike, it will be easier to change the way you feel. - Change your self-talk: affirmations, manifestations, you pick... But you need to stop being mean to yourself. Look at the person in the mirror, remember why you started and how amazing you are to be where you are now. Try it for one week and let us know how you felt ;) If you're looking for a job and would like a positive recruitment, make sure you contact us!

At TBS, we believe in purposes, dreams and good energies. We love when we see courage and that spark in the eyes of those who are starting, who are challenging themselves and following their own life missions. Recently, we had the chance to meet three Portuguese friends who had a passion for food in common and the mission to tell their story through one of their country's most traditional street snacks: the chestnuts (or Castanhas, in Portuguese). Portuguese Chestnuts are actually the seed of the chestnut tree. Even though they’re nutty, they contain much less fat than “regular” nuts. Historically, they were eaten in Portugal and other countries in Europe as part of a meal, sometimes as a substitute for bread in the wintertime. Before potatoes were introduced to Europe in the late 16th century, chestnuts were used as a side dish in a meal. Many years later, chestnuts are still a very popular snack in the country. It is very common to walk on the streets in Portugal when days start to get chillier. Meanwhile, in Bristol, Carlos, Eusébio and Ricardo turned a passion into a plan and a plan into a small business. Just in time for Autumn (the best season to eat chestnuts), Tuga Chestnuts is about to open in the city, bringing top-quality freshly roasted chestnuts to our streets. Tuga Chestnuts ticks all the boxes for us - they are a small business that was born from a passion and will bring more jobs and cultural diversity to Bristol. So TBS decided to support them from day one. We are really excited about the grand opening, on 14/10 in Bristol St Nicolas Marker and soon after on local Christmas markets too. In the meantime, make sure you follow them on Instagram and stay tuned for more!

Flexible/Temporary jobs have been misjudged for a long time in our society. The idea that proper jobs are performed by those in collar shirts at the office from 9 to 6 was the rule people insisted to follow. Not anymore. And we needed a pandemic to show us that. The flexibility gained by working from home and the idea of not having a clear routine made many people rethink their working patterns. Not surprisingly, now that remote working is no longer mandatory, many people don't feel entirely comfortable with the idea of a 9-6 routine anymore. Not only because of the time but also because they are looking for self-development. They want to learn different skills and beat challenges and get a sense of realisation that goes beyond their office jobs. If this is your case, this blog is for you. Because it's 2022, and it's time to change our perception of temporary work. Yes, flex jobs can change your life, and we tell you why: You learn to be on your own When was the last time you spent time on your own? Having temporary jobs usually means changing your colleagues quite frequently, which means you’ll be your main companion most of the time. Learning to be on your own helps your ability to overcome challenges and reduce your stress by the simple fact that you’ll be free to hear your own voice. Your inner voice. Being on your own means you’ll need to live with your own silence. And you’ll be surprised by how many amazing things you can discover in that. You gain life-changing skills You know what skills are expected from you when starting a job, and you also know you’ll learn some other skills once you get used to your activity. However, there are some hidden skills that are also part of your temporary job that not many people talk about, and are extremely important from a professional and personal aspect. A good example of these skills is organisation. Shift jobs usually need a clear organisation to make sure everything runs smoothly for the following shift, and so on. Focus and concentration are other life-changing skills that you can easily pick up when working temp jobs. You learn to be present and to trust the process Working in shifts helps you focus on the present moment. There’s no need to think or stress about tomorrow or the following month. Your focus there is to complete your shift with excellence. And tomorrow will be a different day. The shift mentality makes it easier to see things as cycles, meaning you learn to trust the process and go with the flow. You understand autonomy means responsibility… Autonomy is a powerful word, but often people forget it means responsibility. You’ll never proof your autonomy if you can’t proof your sense of responsibility. When performing a flex job, you develop a strong sense of ownership and responsibility, and those, together, will give you the right autonomy to fly higher! … and flexibility means freedom By being autonomous and responsible, you’ll be able to organise your routine in a way you have time to spend with your family, your friends, and yourself. By working flexibly, you’re free to organise your life the way you want it to be. If you want to find the perfect job, upload your CV to our database here.
