How a temporary/flexible job can change your life

26 August 2022

Flexible/Temporary jobs have been misjudged for a long time in our society. The idea that proper jobs are performed by those in collar shirts at the office from 9 to 6 was the rule people insisted to follow.

Not anymore. And we needed a pandemic to show us that. The flexibility gained by working from home and the idea of not having a clear routine made many people rethink their working patterns.

Not surprisingly, now that remote working is no longer mandatory, many people don't feel entirely comfortable with the idea of a 9-6 routine anymore. Not only because of the time but also because they are looking for self-development. They want to learn different skills and beat challenges and get a sense of realisation that goes beyond their office jobs.

If this is your case, this blog is for you. Because it's 2022, and it's time to change our perception of temporary work. Yes, flex jobs can change your life, and we tell you why:

You learn to be on your own

When was the last time you spent time on your own? Having temporary jobs usually means changing your colleagues quite frequently, which means you’ll be your main companion most of the time.

Learning to be on your own helps your ability to overcome challenges and reduce your stress by the simple fact that you’ll be free to hear your own voice. Your inner voice. Being on your own means you’ll need to live with your own silence. And you’ll be surprised by how many amazing things you can discover in that.

You gain life-changing skills

You know what skills are expected from you when starting a job, and you also know you’ll learn some other skills once you get used to your activity. However, there are some hidden skills that are also part of your temporary job that not many people talk about, and are extremely important from a professional and personal aspect.

A good example of these skills is organisation. Shift jobs usually need a clear organisation to make sure everything runs smoothly for the following shift, and so on. Focus and concentration are other life-changing skills that you can easily pick up when working temp jobs.

You learn to be present and to trust the process

Working in shifts helps you focus on the present moment. There’s no need to think or stress about tomorrow or the following month. Your focus there is to complete your shift with excellence. And tomorrow will be a different day.

The shift mentality makes it easier to see things as cycles, meaning you learn to trust the process and go with the flow.

You understand autonomy means responsibility…

Autonomy is a powerful word, but often people forget it means responsibility. You’ll never proof your autonomy if you can’t proof your sense of responsibility. When performing a flex job, you develop a strong sense of ownership and responsibility, and those, together, will give you the right autonomy to fly higher!

… and flexibility means freedom

By being autonomous and responsible, you’ll be able to organise your routine in a way you have time to spend with your family, your friends, and yourself. By working flexibly, you’re free to organise your life the way you want it to be.

For centuries, human life followed a relatively predictable pattern: Learn. Work. Retire. Most people spent their first 20 years learning, the next 40 years working, and hopefully enjoyed a few years of retirement at the end. But what if that model is about to disappear? Thanks to advances in healthcare, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, preventative health, personalised nutrition, and longevity science, many experts believe today's younger generations could routinely live beyond 100 years old. Some researchers even suggest that healthy lifespans could extend far beyond that. If people live longer, healthier lives, the world of work will need to change dramatically. At Talent Boutique Solutions, we believe workforce planning is no longer about filling vacancies. It is about understanding how human potential, technology, and longevity will reshape the future.

Technology was supposed to simplify life. Automation promised efficiency. Smartphones promised connection. AI promised speed. Modern tools promised freedom. Yet somehow, many people feel more overwhelmed, mentally exhausted and constantly “on” than ever before. We are living in one of the most technologically advanced periods in history, but instead of building better lives, many of us are simply building faster ones. And there is a difference. The Paradox of Convenience Modern workplaces are filled with tools designed to save time: emails instant messaging automation platforms scheduling systems AI assistants cloud software productivity apps Individually, they all make sense. But collectively? They often create more complexity than clarity. Instead of reducing workload, many employees are now managing endless notifications, updates, logins, dashboards, meetings and communication channels. We are no longer just doing our jobs - we are managing the systems surrounding our jobs. Humans were meant to use machines as tools. Increasingly, it feels like humans are adapting themselves to keep up with machines. Faster Does Not Always Mean Better Speed has become one of society’s biggest obsessions. Faster replies. Faster delivery. Faster growth. Faster results. But somewhere along the way, we stopped asking an important question: Are we actually improving quality of life, or simply increasing the pace of it? Many professionals today are highly productive but deeply tired. Constant stimulation has become normalised. Being busy has become a status symbol. Rest often feels undeserved unless exhaustion has already arrived. The problem is that the human nervous system was never designed for constant acceleration. The Psychology Behind Modern Burnout There is also a psychological side to this conversation that businesses often overlook. Many people are not only addicted to productivity - they are addicted to the emotions surrounding it: urgency pressure achievement validation being needed feeling important through busyness
Dogs in the Office
23 April 2026
Walk into an office with a dog and the atmosphere shifts immediately. Conversations start faster, people smile more, and the space feels human rather than transactional. For us at Talent Boutique, that matters - because recruitment is not just about filling roles, it’s about building environments where people actually want to stay and perform. Mental Health That’s Felt, Not Promised Workplaces talk a lot about wellbeing, but dogs create something tangible. Studies consistently show reduced stress levels, lower cortisol, and improved mood when dogs are present. It’s simple - a quick walk, a moment of interaction, or even just having a calm presence nearby can reset someone’s entire day. That’s not theory - that’s practical, everyday impact. Better Relationships, Naturally Dogs break down barriers. They give people a reason to talk who otherwise wouldn’t. Senior leaders become more approachable. New starters integrate faster. Teams connect without forced “team building” exercises. In recruitment, where culture fit is everything, this matters more than most companies realise. A Signal of Trust and Modern Thinking Allowing dogs in the workplace says something without saying it directly - this is a business that trusts its people and understands balance. That attracts a different calibre of candidate. Not just those looking for a job, but those looking for an environment aligned with how they want to live and work. The Talent Boutique Perspective We don’t see initiatives like this as “nice to have”. They are part of a wider strategy - creating workplaces that support performance through wellbeing, connection, and culture. Because when people feel better, they work better. And when teams connect better, businesses grow stronger. Dogs in the office might seem like a small change. In reality, it’s a signal of a much bigger shift.

There is a narrative spreading across the UK right now that hiring is broken. Companies are frustrated. Roles stay open longer. Candidates do not meet expectations. The process feels heavier than it used to. But the truth is less comfortable. Hiring is not broken. It is being exposed. What we are seeing in 2026 is not a lack of talent or opportunity. It is a shift in the market that is forcing businesses to confront how they make decisions about people. And many are realising that their hiring strategies have not evolved. The Market Has Slowed Down for a Reason For years, hiring was driven by speed. A role opened. A job was posted. Applications came in quickly. Decisions were made just as fast. It created a rhythm that felt productive, even if it was not always effective. That environment allowed for shortcuts. CVs became filters. Job titles became proof of capability. Experience was taken at face value. And when something did not work out, the solution was simple. Replace and move on. 2026 does not allow that anymore. The market has slowed, but not in a negative way. It has become more deliberate. Fewer hires are being made, but each one carries more weight. Expectations are higher, margins are tighter, and mistakes are harder to recover from. This is no longer a volume game. It is a decision game. When Volume Disappears, Weakness Becomes Visible One of the biggest misconceptions in hiring is that more applications mean better options. In reality, volume often hides problems. When there are hundreds of CVs, it becomes easy to rely on surface level decisions. Keywords, familiar companies, linear career paths. It creates the illusion of control, but not necessarily better outcomes. Now that volume has reduced, those shortcuts are no longer enough. Businesses are being forced to slow down and ask better questions. What does a strong candidate actually look like? What does success in this role require beyond the obvious? What kind of person will perform well in this specific environment? Without clear answers, even good candidates are missed. And that is where the frustration comes from. Not from the market, but from the lack of clarity within the hiring process itself.
